Mrs Pearson reaches dizzy heights

Fearless Infant School teacher Mrs Nikki Pearson recently went to new heights to raise money for sports equipment for her school. Nikki, a Year 2 teacher at Nyewood CE Infant School, performed a 100m abseil from Portmouth’s iconic Spinnaker Tower. Of her feat she said, “I wanted to do something a bit different, and enjoy a challenge so when I saw the opportunity advertised, I thought it would be a fun way to raise funds. I was expecting nerves to kick in, but I can honestly say it was an awesome experience.” So far Mrs Pearson has raised over £200, which will go towards providing new wall climbing bars in the school hall.

Dads Behaving Daddily Day

Dads returned to school recently when Nyewood CE Infant School Reception Year children hosted a ‘Dads Behaving Daddily’ day. The children invited their dads to come to school for the morning or afternoon to share in all the activities that happen during the day. The dads were able to play in the sandpit, enjoy music making and painting and explore the beautiful school grounds as well as taking part in reading, writing and maths lessons. Sally Burge the Early Years Coordinator said, “We had a wonderful day. All the dads really appreciated having the time to come and see what their children do in school. The children were really excited and there was a great buzz around the school all day”.

Early Years Teaching Project

Bognor Regis Nursery School and Children’s Centre is currently one of only 16 participants nationally that has been selected to take part in an Early Years Teaching Centres project. Only settings that had been graded as Outstanding by Ofsted were eligible to apply. This is being run by the Pen Green Research base and funded by the Department for Education. The 2 year project will establish a national network of Early Years Teaching Centres and develop and promote ways in which outstanding centres can train and support staff in other local early years settings.
